For overseas people who want to do car camping in Japan, we will introduce places where you can do car camping in Japan.
Here are some places where you can car camp in Japan!
Hello, I'm a Japanese man in his thirties enjoying a car camp in Japan.
I usually post the state of the car camp on this blog and YouTube to share information.
I would be grateful if you could watch the YouTube video as well. ▼
In this article, we will introduce places where you can camp in Japan for foreigners who want to camp in Japan.
Please refer to the notes as they are also included. 🙂
Of course, you can camp not only in a tent but also in a car at the campsite. I often use the campsite and enjoy car camping.
At the campsite, you can enjoy cooking using fire outside the car, so it's a good idea to procure delicious Japanese ingredients, which are a local specialty, at a store near the campsite and enjoy camping food.
I also put up local production for local consumption and practice such fun.
Please note that some campsites do not allow car camps, so please check in advance.
Also, although it is possible to cook outside the car, bonfires that ignite directly on the ground are prohibited in most campsites, so be sure to check the precautions and follow proper etiquette!
Please see my video of car camping at the campsite for your reference. ▼
Highway service area & parking area
Car camping is also possible in the service area and parking area of the highway.
Car camp here means "just sleep in the car".
However, since the service area & parking area is prepared as a "resting place for drivers", it is wrong to use it for car camping purposes.
It can be used only as a "break / nap for the way to somewhere".
And, as a premise, "use of fire is prohibited".
It is strictly forbidden to use fire for cooking in the car.
Of course, it is strictly forbidden to camp or barbecue outside the car, so be sure to check the rules for each location and follow the etiquette.
Car camping is also possible at the roadside stations scattered in each area.
Car camp at the roadside station also means "just sleep in the car" like the service area & parking area of the highway.
The basic rules (such as the use of fire is strictly prohibited) are the same as in the service area and parking area of the highway, so when using the roadside station in a car camp, check the rules for each place and follow the etiquette.
The roadside station is also a place where you can buy local specialties and vegetables.
It might be a good idea to procure ingredients at the roadside station and take them with you to enjoy cooking and car camp at the campsite!
